How we make money

We may earn a commission when a visitor clicks through to a registered operator from this site and opens an account there. This page explains that model plainly.

Our current commercial relationships, as of September 19, 2026

As of September 19, 2026, Alberta Gambling Guide has no active affiliate agreements with any operator. No links on this site currently carry a tracked commercial referral, and no operator has paid for placement, ranking, or coverage. Where this changes, this page will be updated with the date it changed.

How the model works when it is active

When we do have a commercial relationship with an operator, a visit generated through this site may earn us a commission if that visit results in a new account. That relationship never affects:

  • which operators we list — status comes only from AGLC's and AiGC's own public records, not from who pays us (see methodology);
  • how we describe an operator — the same editorial policy and sourcing rules apply regardless of any commercial relationship (see editorial policy); and
  • future scores or rankings — when scoring begins, it will be built from the same verified data for every operator, paying or not.

Alberta's advertising rules bind anyone who advertises an iGaming site, not only the registered operator, and treat third-party marketing affiliates as expected to act as if bound by the same standards as operators. We follow those standards as a matter of course, not only where required.

What we will never do

  • We will never promote an operator that is not registered in Alberta. No outbound link of any kind — tracked or not — goes to an operator we have not confirmed is registered.
  • We will never publish bonus, offer, or inducement content. Alberta's advertising standards prohibit advertising or marketing that communicates gambling inducements, bonuses or credits outside an operator's own site and direct marketing with a player's consent. We do not carry "welcome offer" copy, promo codes, or bonus comparison tables anywhere on this site.
  • We will never let a commercial relationship change a registration status or a fact. A claim's status is set by the evidence behind it, not by who benefits from the outcome.

What each source supports
  • Advertising and marketing materials (including algorithmic ads) that communicate gambling inducements, bonuses and credits are prohibited in Alberta, except on an operator's own gaming site and through direct marketing after the player has given express, opt-in consent that can be withdrawn at any time. [1]
  • Alberta's iGaming advertising rules bind anyone who advertises an iGaming site, not only the registered operator: GLCA s.49.41(b) requires advertising to follow 'the standards and requirements established by the board', and GLCR s.34.7(1) defines 'advertise' to include marketing or promoting an iGaming site. AGLC's Compliance Approach treats third-party marketing affiliates as carrying out this activity as if bound by the same standards as operators. [2], [3], [4]
  • AGLC's Compliance Approach (under its Responsible Gambling and Minors priorities) states that third-party marketing service providers ('affiliates' or 'marketing affiliates') are expected to carry out their activities as if they were bound by the same laws, regulations and standards as registered operators.
